The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has adopted Peter Mrakpor as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 Delta State gubernatorial election following the party’s primary held on Sunday in Asaba.
The primary election, which took place at the Southend Event Centre, along DBS Road, attracted prominent leaders and stakeholders of the party from across the country and the South-South region.

Party sources disclosed that Mrakpor emerged as the sole aspirant after successfully purchasing, submitting, and passing the screening process for the PDP governorship primary.
The event also drew governorship delegates, House of Assembly aspirants, House of Representatives and senatorial candidates, as well as party supporters from the 25 local government areas of the state.
Addressing party faithful after his emergence, Mrakpor expressed appreciation to PDP leaders and members for entrusting him with the party’s ticket, describing the victory as a shared responsibility for the future of Delta State.
“This mandate is for all of us. It is a collective mission to rebuild and reposition Delta State for greater progress,” he said.

“I want to make it clear that I will serve only one term. After four years, other ethnic nationalities should also have the opportunity to lead the state,” he stated.
Mrakpor also criticised politicians who defected from the PDP to the APC, describing their action as politically misguided.
“Those who left the PDP for the APC made a wrong calculation. Some of them are already finding their way back after discovering the realities on the other side,” he remarked.
He assured Deltans that his administration would prioritise industrialisation, healthcare, transportation, education, housing, agriculture, electricity, security and infrastructure development.
According to him, his administration would focus on restoring public confidence in governance while addressing challenges confronting the state.
“We are determined to correct the failures in the system and restore effective governance. Within four years, Delta State will witness a significant transformation,” Mrakpor added.
Drawing inspiration from the achievements of late nationalist leader Obafemi Awolowo, the PDP candidate said impactful governance was achievable within a single tenure with the right leadership and commitment.
