The wike-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has affirmed Chief Maurice Vunobolki as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Adamawa State Sunday following an affirmation exercise held in Yola on Sunday.
Vunobolki emerged as the party’s candidate after delegates from the 21 local government areas of the state endorsed him during the exercise conducted at the Mahmud Ribadu Square.
Another aspirant, Caleb Andrew Myebangara, was reportedly absent from the event. Sources within the party said Myebangara belongs to a faction of the PDP that is yet to gain recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The motion for Vunobolki’s affirmation was moved by former House of Representatives member Ja’afaru Ribadu and seconded by Yola North Local Government Chairman, Ibrahim Jimeta. Delegates subsequently adopted him through a voice vote dominated by “Yes” responses.
Chairman of the PDP Governorship Primary Committee for Adamawa State, Debo Ologunagba, thereafter declared Maurice Vunobolki as the duly affirmed governorship candidate of the party for the 2027 general election.

Speaking after his emergence, Vunobolki appealed for unity and support among PDP members across the state ahead of the election.
He stated that his experience in development consulting has given him extensive knowledge of Adamawa State and its challenges, expressing confidence in his ability to provide practical solutions if elected governor.
Vunobolki also challenged candidates from rival political parties to public debates where they would present their plans and demonstrate their understanding of the needs of the people of Adamawa State.
The development comes amid lingering internal disagreements within the PDP at both national and state levels as different factions continue to battle for control of party structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
