Biafra agitator, Ralph Uwazuruike has accused fellow separatist leader, Nnamdi Kanu of continuing recruiting Igbo youths for violent activities while serving a prison sentence.

Uwazuruike alleged that the recruitment has led to the deaths of many young people.

Key Highlights:

  • Ralph Uwazuruike accused Nnamdi Kanu of recruiting youths for violence from prison.
  • He urged Igbo leaders to ask Kanu to stop encouraging violence.
  • Uwazuruike called for amnesty for IPOB members who renounce violence.
  • His remarks followed videos showing armed men making threats in the South-East.
  • He also questioned Kanu’s reported reorganisation of IPOB leadership from prison.

In a video shared on YouTube, Uwazuruike, founder of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), urged Igbo leaders and the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to visit Kanu in prison and demand that he stops encouraging youths to engage in violence.

According to him, Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), should focus on serving his sentence, instead of allegedly drawing more youths into violent actions.

“I hate violence, and anyone who knows me will agree that I do not have anything to do with violence. How can someone who has been sentenced to prison remain there and still be recruiting our youths for violence?” he said.

Uwazuruike further argued that IPOB members who are willing to renounce violence should be granted amnesty and rehabilitated, similar to programmes previously offered to repentant terrorists and bandits in northern Nigeria.Nigerian economic reports

His comments come amid the circulation of videos on social media showing masked, armed men claiming to be IPOB members and supporters of Kanu, threatening a fresh wave of violence in the South-East if their leader is not released.

Uwazuruike also referenced Kanu’s recent reorganisation of IPOB’s leadership from prison, including the appointment of a new Directorate of State and the reported formation of a “100-man project,” whose purpose has not been publicly explained.
