The army has intensified its crackdown on armed groups in the South-East, overrunning suspected IPOB/ESN strongholds and recovering explosives as well as ransom funds in coordinated operations in Enugu State.
On April 14, 2026, troops under ‘Operation Eastern Sanity’, alongside the air component of ‘Operation UDO KA’, launched a targeted clearance mission in Ajali Forest, Ezeagu Local Government Area.
The operation forced the fighters to retreat hastily, leaving behind critical items, including an anti-tank Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
According to military sources, the device was safely secured by an explosive ordnance disposal team, preventing possible harm to both civilians and security personnel.
Troops have since taken control of the area, continuing clearance efforts and destroying identified camps and hideouts to prevent any regrouping.
In a related operation the same day, soldiers of the 82 Division Garrison in Adani, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, acting on intelligence from the Department of State Services (DSS), intercepted suspected ransom proceeds linked to a kidnapping ring.

One suspect was arrested during the raid, while a pump-action rifle and ₦2 million believed to be ransom money were recovered.
The suspect and recovered items have been handed over for further investigation as authorities work to dismantle the wider network.
The army said the operations have dealt a significant blow to the group’s operational strength and funding, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining pressure until criminal elements are completely neutralized.
