Nigerians on social media have reacted angrily and with disbelief after details of an ongoing security operation involving kidnapped victims, landmines and surveillance drones emerged.

The disclosure has sparked controversy, with some Nigerians questioning why sensitive operational information involving kidnappers were being made public, while the security operation is reportedly still ongoing.

Several users argued that revealing details about the location and tactics being used would compromise efforts to rescue the victims and potentially alert the kidnappers.

Reacting to the development, X user @OPumber41613 wrote: “As you they talk now if the kidnappers see this video them go run from there oga.”

Another user, @IbrahimAFC, criticised the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), writing: “E no go better for NYSC wey post people children when they know the state of security in Nigeria VEEY USELESS ORGANIZATION.”

Questioning the decision to release the information publicly, @_ldRisJaja said: “Nigerian security services does not know anything about classified information, they just come out publicly and open their mouths waaa like a donkey.”

The user added: “Why and how are you divulging such information on social media ffs??”

Another X user, @NickleS06377376, reacted sarcastically, writing: “And you’re on air granting interviews This country is a joke.”

The mention of landmines also generated scepticism, with @XXTrustGodXX questioning the explanation.

The user wrote: “Mines ke? Landmines need specialized ground detectors or signs of freshly disturbed soil. Drones don’t just magically see buried explosives from the air. Sounds more like a premade excuse for why a rescue attempt is not happening.”

Similarly, @Najeto7 warned that publicly discussing the operation could endanger the victims.

“Sir Shey e Gbadun… Sharing details like this while the operation is ongoing could alert the kidnappers and put the victims at greater risk….”

Another user, @HugoPhilz, sarcastically responded: “Thanks for the information They would have changed locations.”

@MisterBayo_ also questioned the timing of the disclosure, saying: “This is the overzealous statements that made the Oyo situation more complex that I should have been.

“I don’t know why the police are always in hurry to give the press information at a time when it should be concealed for tactical reasons. If na like this FBI dey sing like bird…”

Meanwhile, @BaguduRinka expressed doubt over the claim, writing: “Why reveal such sensitive information to the public, I doubt if this is true.”

Another user, @seyitheking, said: “U will hardly see kidnappers talking about the kind of weapons they are. Always be discreet be fucking discreet Gosh.”

The controversy extended to the use of drones. @UcHeAkAuHo argued that authorities should acquire more sophisticated equipment, writing: “drones that are not weaponised are just flying cameras, is high time they purchase drones with attached machine guns.”

@ZeemMiles questioned the release of the information, asking: “Is this how intelligence gathered should be shared?”

Another user, @HR_Majestykris, mocked the explanation, writing: “Drones mines balblabla… If na to shoot peaceful protesters now, men go mouth.”

Also reacting, @cheeknonxo wrote: “He’s reporting to us. We should come pick up the mines for you or something?”

The reactions have intensified the debate over the balance between public information and operational secrecy, particularly when security agencies are dealing with kidnappers and hostage situations.

While authorities may seek to keep the public informed, the reactions show growing concern among Nigerians that revealing tactical details during an ongoing operation could have unintended consequences for both security personnel and victims. For the latest updates, follow us on X.
