Carlos Alcaraz is targeting a return to competitive tennis at next month’s Cincinnati Open after recovering from the wrist injury that has kept him sidelined on the ATP Tour since April.
The Spanish star has not played since suffering the injury during the Barcelona Open, forcing him to withdraw from both the French Open and Wimbledon, where he had hoped to defend his Roland Garros title.
Alcaraz will also miss the Canadian Open in Montreal, scheduled for August 2 to 13, but is expected to make his comeback at the Cincinnati Open, which runs from August 13 to 23, as part of his preparations for the US Open.
The world No. 3 will be looking to regain match sharpness ahead of the year’s final Grand Slam, where he is set to defend his US Open crown.
Alcaraz will also return to Cincinnati as the defending champion after lifting the 2025 title when Italy’s Jannik Sinner retired during the final because of illness.
Sinner, who has enjoyed an outstanding season by winning all five ATP Masters 1000 tournaments contested this year, is expected to feature at the Canadian Open following his successful Wimbledon title defence.

Meanwhile, former US Open champion Emma Raducanu will miss the Cincinnati Open as she continues her recovery from a stress fracture in her lower leg. The British star is focusing on returning to full fitness ahead of the US Open.
Elsewhere, Jack Draper will require a wildcard to feature in the tournament, while Britain’s new No. 1, Arthur Fery, has secured direct entry into the main draw.
Fery booked his place after climbing to a career-high world ranking of No. 36 following an impressive run to the Wimbledon semi-finals.
The Cincinnati Open is expected to provide one of the final opportunities for the world’s leading players to fine-tune their preparations before the US Open begins on August 30.
