The protesters were seen moving through parts of the city with placards and T-shirts carrying anti-Tinubu messages, while their demonstration reportedly caused traffic gridlock in some areas.

The action comes amid growing public discontent over the rising cost of living, economic difficulties and continuing security challenges confronting several communities in northern Nigeria.

Scenes At Freedom Square

The gathering reportedly took place around Freedom Square, a major intersection in Gusau connecting several roads within the metropolis.

The location is a busy transportation hub, and the large crowd reportedly slowed the movement of commercial tricycles, motorcycles and private vehicles.

Footage from the demonstration showed male protesters wearing white T-shirts with the anti-government inscription, while several women, many dressed in colourful hijabs, stood along the roadside. Some demonstrators were also seen riding motorcycles.

A vehicle fitted with a public address system was positioned at the centre of the gathering, with a cameraman recording proceedings from its roof.

Although the protest has been linked to dissatisfaction with the Tinubu administration, the organisers’ identities and a formal list of demands had not been independently established as of the time of reporting.

The protest comes amid a growing wave of opposition to the president’s administration in parts of northern Nigeria, where economic hardship and insecurity have become major political issues ahead of the 2027 general election.

Zamfara has been among the states severely affected by armed banditry, kidnappings and attacks on rural communities.

Nigerians React

Reacting to the development, an X user, @Hahyahatu, suggested that the protest could spread to other parts of the north, predicting that even security personnel might eventually sympathise with the movement.

The user wrote: “This is just the beginning the fire of Tinubu Must Go will catch every city in the north , and believe at a point even the security agents will also join or at least refuse to take orders, because they also feel the effect of Tinubu bad governance that put the country in hardship.”

Another user, @geela22, described the protest as an opportunity for Nigerians to hold political leaders accountable through the ballot box in 2027.

“It’s payback time guys! This is how politics should be , you give us hardship we vote you out , Zamfara people had their ernomous dose of the insecurity and now it’s time to payback. TINUBU MUST GO!!”

Similarly, @onyeuke2 compared political protests in northern and southern Nigeria, arguing that governors in the South would be less tolerant of similar demonstrations against the President.

The user said: “This is the difference between the North & South, this type of protest can never happen in the South because the Govs there in the quest to please Tinubu will order police to kill their kith & kin.”
