Mali’s Defence Minister, Sadio Camara, has reportedly been killed in a deadly wave of terrorist attacks targeting military and strategic locations across the country.
According to multiple reports, Camara died alongside one of his wives and two grandchildren after a car bomb detonated at his residence in Kati, a key military town near the capital, Bamako.
The incident formed part of a broader series of coordinated assaults that struck several areas on Saturday.
The attacks are believed to have been carried out by militants linked to Al-Qaeda, alongside Tuareg rebel factions.
The violence disrupted normal activities nationwide, including forcing a temporary shutdown of Mali’s main airport, as explosions were reported in multiple locations.

Camara was a central figure in the ruling military administration led by Assimi Goïta, which assumed power following successive coups in 2020 and 2021.
In an official statement, the Malian armed forces confirmed that clashes are ongoing, with security personnel actively confronting the attackers and attempting to restore order in affected regions.
Mali has struggled with prolonged instability and insurgency over the past decade, as armed groups continue to stage attacks against both military installations and civilian targets, deepening concerns over security in the Sahel region.
