The navy has recorded fresh operational gains against violent terrorist groups in the North West, rescuing kidnapped victims and neutralising suspects during coordinated missions under ‘Operation Fasan Yamma’.

In a statement detailing the operations, naval authorities said troops responded to multiple distress calls and intelligence reports between April 18 and 20, 2026, leading to successful engagements with armed attackers.

“At the Forward Operating Base, Ibira on April 18, troops swiftly intervened after reports of gunfire along the Doka–Ibira axis.

“On arrival, they confronted armed extremists who had attacked civilians.

“The attackers fled under pressure, abandoning their victims. Five individuals were rescued, four of whom sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to a hospital in Idon for treatment.

“One victim later died from injuries. Troops also recovered the victims’ vehicle and launched follow-up operations to track the fleeing suspects,” the navy said.

In a separate mission on April 20, personnel of the 2 National Mission Force Brigade, acting on credible intelligence, set up an ambush at Anguwan Haske.

The operation led to the neutralisation of one extremist and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, with no casualties reported among the troops.

Similarly, at FOB Dokan Karji, troops responded to a distress call from Kushere Village, where civilians had been abducted.

After a gun battle, the attackers were overpowered and forced to retreat, while three kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed.

The navy said the operations underscore its continued commitment to supporting internal security efforts and combating terrorism.

It also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations across the country.
