The Cross River State Police Command says it is set to commence a statewide enforcement operation, targeting vehicles operating with covered, obscured, altered, defaced, unregistered, or missing registration number plates.
Key Highlights:
- Cross River Police to enforce a statewide crackdown on covered, defaced, missing, or fake number plates.
- Offending vehicles risk impoundment.
- The move aims to boost security and aid crime tracking.
- Motorists are urged to use valid, visible number plates and proper documents.
- Police commanders across the state have been directed to intensify enforcement.
The action, the police said, is aimed at enhancing public safety, strengthening intelligence-led policing, and preventing criminal elements from exploiting unidentifiable vehicles to perpetrate unlawful activities.
This is contained in a statement available to newsmen in Calabar by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Akata on Monday.
The statement said area commanders, tactical commanders, and divisional police officers have been directed to intensify surveillance and enforcement efforts to identify and sanction violators.
It emphasized that any vehicle found operating in breach of existing registration regulations will be subjected to thorough scrutiny, while offenders may face appropriate sanctions, including the impoundment of such vehicles in accordance with extant laws.

The command stated that it has observed with concern the increasing incidence of vehicles plying roads across the state with concealed, defaced, or absent registration plates, adding that the trend undermines security operations and impedes efforts to trace vehicles linked to criminal activities.
“Vehicle owners and operators are therefore advised to ensure that their registration number plates are properly affixed, clearly visible, and issued by the appropriate authorities,” the statement said.
The police encouraged motorists to maintain valid vehicle documentation and comply fully with all traffic and registration requirements.
It assured residents of the state that the exercise is solely intended to improve security and safeguard lives and property.
Law-abiding citizens are urged to cooperate with officers carrying out this operation as the command remains committed to creating a safer environment for all.
