A communal clash between two neighbouring communities have led to the killing of two farmers in the Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday 8, 2026, when one of the farmers, Omini Iyam Ebri, was allegedly shot while working on his farm.
Another farmer, Ubi Ofem Ubi, who was reportedly with him at the time of the attack, sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to the General Hospital, Ugep, for treatment.
The second victim, who suffered a gunshot wound to his left leg during the attack, was initially receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Ugep, but later died from his injuries, according to police sources.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital mortuary.
Confirming the incident to journalists, the Police Public Relations Officer ASP Sunday Eitokpah said security operatives had been deployed to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the area.
According to the police, officers working in collaboration with personnel of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) have been mobilized to the area to maintain peace and forestall any retaliatory attacks.
He said investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and bring those responsible to justice.
