The House of Representatives has summoned the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, alongside the service chiefs over the worsening security situation across Nigeria, marked by a surge in kidnappings, terrorist attacks, and school abductions.

Key Highlights:

  • Reps summon Nuhu Ribadu and service chiefs over insecurity.
  • Concern over rising kidnappings and attacks nationwide.
  • School abductions reported in Oyo State and Borno State.
  • Lawmakers demand updates on rescue efforts and security plans.
  • Pressure grows on government to improve safety and accountability.

The resolution was passed on Tuesday during plenary, following the adoption of a motion sponsored by Rep. Sulaiman Gumi, who represents Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency of Zamfara State.

Lawmakers expressed deep concern over the continued wave of killings, bandit attacks, kidnappings, and other violent crimes across several parts of the country, despite repeated assurances from security agencies and the Federal Government.

The summons comes amid growing public outrage over recent attacks on schools in Oyo and Borno States, where armed groups abducted pupils, teachers, and school workers in separate incidents that reignited fears of a return to mass school kidnappings.

It also follows renewed pressure on the federal government after President Bola Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to securing the release of abducted victims still in captivity.

The House of Representatives said the appearance of the national security adviser and service chiefs is expected to provide clarity on current security strategies, ongoing rescue efforts, and measures being taken to prevent further attacks on schools and communities.

Lawmakers stressed that Nigerians deserve stronger accountability and more effective action as insecurity continues to spread across multiple regions of the country.
