An aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Sabon Gari Federal Constituency seat, Mahmud Sadis Buba, has officially withdrawn from the race just hours before the party’s primary election held in the early hours of Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Buba’s sudden withdrawal, announced around 3 a.m. on the day of the primary election, has triggered widespread reactions within APC circles and among political observers in Kaduna State.

In a statement personally signed and published on his Facebook page, Buba explained that his decision followed ongoing reconciliation moves by party leaders aimed at promoting unity and consensus within the APC.
According to him, extensive consultations with his family, political associates, and party stakeholders convinced him that stepping down from the contest was in the overall interest of the party.
He stated that preserving unity within the APC was more important than pursuing personal political ambition, especially as the party prepares for future electoral contests in Kaduna State and the Sabon Gari Federal Constituency.
Buba also expressed appreciation to Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and the APC leadership in the state for providing him the opportunity to participate in the political process.
