The Enugu State Police Command has debunked an alleged social media video purporting unlawful detention and killing of suspects in the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit in Enugu.

The command’s spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement on Tuesday in Enugu, said that “no such incident has occurred in any of its units.”

According to Ndukwe, the command is aware of a viral video alleging unlawful detention and killing of suspects in the SWAT Unit, Enugu, describing the claims as false and an attempt at misinformation.

The spokesman said that preliminary findings indicate that the video is misleading, unverified, and deliberately intended to misinform the public and undermine confidence in the police.

He reiterated that all suspects in custody are treated in accordance with the law and with due respect for their fundamental human rights.

Ndukwe noted that no record of extrajudicial killing or unlawful detention as alleged exists.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mamman Giwa, urged the public to disregard the video and refrain from sharing unverified content capable of inciting fear or eroding trust in law enforcement.

The commissioner advised residents to rely on official police communication channels for accurate information.

He further reaffirmed the command’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law, while assuring residents of its continued dedication to the protection of lives and property.
