Policemen drawn from the Marine Units of both the Delta and Anambra State Police Commands, supported by personnel of the Buffalo Team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, have embarked on a coordinated patrol operation along critical waterways bordering the Second Niger Bridge axis through to the Asaba Grand Hotel area.

The operational engagement, according to the police, “is part of the command’s commitment to addressing emerging security threats and ensuring the safety of residents and commuters”.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, for Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, copies of which were made available to journalists in Delta State.

The statement noted, “All officers involved in the exercise were properly kitted with life jackets as part of safety protocols and professionalism in the discharge of policing duties.”

“The operation was carried out successfully without any incident”, it added.

Commenting on the waterways patrol operations, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reassured residents of the state that “the Command is committed to safeguarding lives and property across the state”.

The CP encouraged residents to “remain vigilant and continue to support the Police with timely and credible information”.

Kidnapping for ransom along waterways in the Niger Delta has remained a persistent security concern, with criminal elements exploiting the region’s difficult terrain to ambush boats, abduct commuters, and evade law enforcement.
