Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested a 25-year-old man over alleged possession and transportation of illicit drugs, marking what officials describe as a breakthrough in the fight against crime in the state.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed that the arrest was made during an intelligence-driven operation conducted late on April 19, 2026, across Girei and nearby communities.
The suspect, Suleiman Mahmud, who hails from Wuro-Jabbe in Yola South Local Government Area, was reportedly intercepted at about 11:45 p.m. while allegedly conveying the substances to the Republic of Cameroon.
Items recovered from him include eight kilograms of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and 20 sachets of tramadol, according to police sources.
The command said the suspect is currently in custody and will face prosecution upon the completion of investigations.

Commenting on the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Kabir Hassan, reiterated the command’s resolve to sustain its crackdown on drug trafficking and other criminal activities.
He urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and useful information to support ongoing efforts to maintain law and order.
