The Oyo State Government has called for public submissions to assist a Judicial Commission of Inquiry investigating the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

The commission is probing the circumstances surrounding the abduction of pupils, students and teachers from Esinele and Yawota communities, as well as the security response before, during and after the incident.

The state government announced the call for memoranda in a statement posted on its official handle on Tuesday.
According to the government, the deadline for submission of memoranda is Friday, August 14, 2026.

It urged members of the public who have relevant information about the incident to come forward and assist the commission in establishing the facts surrounding the abduction.

“The Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the Oriire abduction is calling for public memoranda,” the statement said.
The government said submissions must contain the full name and contact details of the contributor, alongside any supporting documents or materials relevant to the inquiry.

Interested persons can submit their memoranda physically at the Conference Room, Office of the Head of Service, State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
The commission also provided an email address,
oysjceoriireabduction@gmail.com, for electronic submissions.

The abduction occurred on May 15, 2026, when armed men reportedly attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area — Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele; Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; and L.A. Primary School.

The attack resulted in the abduction of 39 students and seven teachers, bringing the number of victims to 46. The victims reportedly spent 56 days in captivity before they were rescued in July by security agencies.

The rescue was announced by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, who said the victims were freed without the payment of ransom or any concession to the abductors.

Following the rescue, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde called for an independent investigation into the incident.
Makinde said the gravity of the abduction required a thorough examination beyond the state’s existing institutions.

The inquiry is expected to examine not only how the abduction occurred but also the actions and response of security agencies before, during and after the attack.

The state government said the investigation was part of efforts to establish what happened and strengthen measures to protect residents and communities across Oyo State.

“The Oyo State Government remains committed to the safety of every community,” the government said.
