Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is reportedly in line to become the next captain of Turkish champions Galatasaray following the exit of Argentine forward Mauro Icardi.
According to reports from Turkey, Osimhen has emerged as the frontrunner to wear the captain’s armband after serving as the club’s vice-captain during the 2025/26 campaign.
While Galatasaray has yet to officially confirm the appointment, the Super Eagles star is widely viewed as the natural successor to Icardi.
Since arriving from Napoli in 2025, Osimhen has become one of the most influential figures at the Istanbul-based club. His goals and leadership have played a key role in Galatasaray’s domestic dominance, helping the team secure consecutive Turkish Süper Lig titles, win the Turkish Cup, and make notable progress in the UEFA Champions League.

The prolific forward has also etched his name into the club’s history books by becoming the fastest Galatasaray player to score 50 goals. He further achieved another milestone by becoming the club’s first foreign player to register a hat-trick in the UEFA Champions League.
Should the appointment be confirmed, Osimhen would take on one of the biggest leadership roles of his career, further cementing his influence at Galatasaray as the club targets more success in both domestic competitions and European football.
