The Yobe State Executive Council has approved ₦73.32 billion for infrastructure, agriculture, housing, road construction and economic empowerment initiatives across the state, reaffirming Governor Mai Mala Buni’s commitment to accelerating socio-economic development and improving the welfare of residents.
The approvals were granted during the State Executive Council meeting held at the Council Chamber, Government House, Damaturu, and chaired by Governor Buni.

Addressing members of the council, Governor Buni commended commissioners for their dedication to effective governance and urged them to sustain efforts toward achieving the administration’s development agenda.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, said the council approved and ratified several memoranda designed to address critical infrastructure and economic priorities across Yobe State.
A substantial portion of the approvals, amounting to ₦28.53 billion, was earmarked for the procurement of agricultural tools and implements under the state’s 2026 Mega Agricultural Empowerment Programme.

According to the government, the initiative builds on similar agricultural interventions successfully implemented in 2024 and 2025 to enhance food production and support farmers across the state.
The Executive Council also approved ₦4.94 billion for the construction of the Buni-Yadi Modern Motor Park and Grains Market, while ₦5.69 billion was approved for external infrastructure and perimeter fence augmentation at the Damaturu Modern Motor Park, which is nearing completion.
To strengthen commercial activities in Gujba Local Government Area, the council approved ₦3.95 billion for the construction of a modern shopping mall and mini-market in Buni-Gari.
Other approvals include:
₦652.63 million for the acquisition of Fanzar Mixed Farms Limited.
₦1.18 billion for the construction of the headquarters of the Ministry of Housing.
₦2.25 billion for the purchase of 208 housing units from the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
The council further approved ₦616.61 million for the upgrading, remodelling, landscaping and installation of safety barriers at four major roundabouts within Damaturu metropolis.
An additional ₦726.09 million was also approved for ongoing construction works at the Damaturu Mega Shopping Mall.
As part of efforts to support small-scale entrepreneurs, the Executive Council approved ₦460.83 million for the procurement of beans to be distributed to women engaged in small businesses across the state.
The government disclosed that beneficiaries would also receive cooking oil, smokeless stoves, cooking utensils and other kitchen equipment already procured by the Ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation.
A total of 1,780 bags of 50-kilogramme beans will be distributed under the programme.
The council also approved ₦364.48 million for the procurement of 1,000 Yamaha GX390 grinding machines, which will be distributed to beneficiaries across the state to promote self-reliance and income generation.
In the road sector, the Executive Council ratified projects worth ₦23.97 billion, including:
₦21.9 billion for the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of the 45-kilometre Kalallawa-Kaliyari Road, linking Damaturu and Tarmuwa Local Government Areas.
₦2.07 billion for the construction of the seven-kilometre Damagum-Gubana Road, completing a 17-kilometre road network connecting Gubana to Damagum.
The council also approved a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement for the redevelopment of the Yobe State Liaison Office in Kaduna into a modern hotel under a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) model.
According to the government, the facility will revert to the Yobe State Government after 10 years, while liaison office services will continue uninterrupted throughout the concession period.
The state government said the approvals reflect Governor Buni’s continued commitment to infrastructure expansion, agricultural development, economic empowerment and policies aimed at improving the quality of life for the people of Yobe State.
