The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the results of the 2026 internal Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), with 58.67 percent of candidates obtaining at least five credits, including English Language and mathematics.
NECO Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, announced the results on Thursday, at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
Wushishi disclosed that a total of 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination, comprising 682,352 males and 695,696 females.
He said 1,371,992 candidates eventually sat for the examination, including 678,903 males and 693,089 females.
According to the registrar, 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67 percent of those who sat for the examination, secured five credits and above, including English Language and nathematics.
He further disclosed that 1,162,118 candidates, representing 84.70 percent, obtained at least five credits irrespective of their performance in English Language and mathematics.
The council also recorded a significant reduction in reported examination malpractice cases.
Wushishi said 1,406 candidates were involved in examination malpractice in 2026, compared with 3,878 candidates recorded in 2025.
He attributed the latest figures to measures adopted by the examination body to strengthen the integrity of the examination process.

The registrar also disclosed that 334 candidates with special needs participated in the 2026 examination, and included persons with hearing and visual impairments, albinism, autism and low vision.
Wushishi said the results were released 63 days after the conclusion of the examination, which was conducted in Nigeria and some other countries.
The release of the results provides candidates with access to their academic performance as they proceed with applications for tertiary education, employment and other opportunities requiring SSCE certification.
