Security agencies in Enugu State have assured residents of adequate security ahead of the Enugu LG election security arrangements for the local government elections scheduled for September 26, 2026.
Speaking on behalf of other security agencies after a security meeting on Thursday, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, said security arrangements for the election had been concluded.

Security Agencies Prepare for Enugu LG Election
Giwa said security agencies had developed strategies to ensure a peaceful and credible election, while also making plans to respond to potential flashpoints and prevent disruptions.
He said security personnel from various agencies would be deployed across the state to protect residents, electoral officials and voters.
“Our officers and men from various security agencies will be everywhere to ensure safety for all residents and people come out to cast their vote without fear or favour.”
The commissioner said the security agencies had committed to maintaining peace before, during and after the election and would respond swiftly to incidents capable of threatening the electoral process.
Giwa added that no specific threat to the election had been identified as of Thursday, while intelligence gathering had been strengthened to enable security agencies to respond proactively to potential threats.
He urged voters who wished to protect their votes to do so peacefully and within the provisions of electoral rules.
ENSIEC Says It Is Ready for Saturday’s Poll
The Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, ENSIEC, Prof. Christian Ngwu, said the commission was fully prepared for the election following what he described as proper arrangements.
Ngwu said security agencies had assured ENSIEC of adequate protection before, during and after the polls.

He said security personnel had also assured the commission that they would respond decisively to threats against electoral officials and voters.
“We are anticipating a successful, hitch-free, transparent and credible election on Saturday.”
Ngwu urged eligible voters to come out with their voter cards and cast their ballots for their preferred candidates.
He also advised voters to protect their votes peacefully and avoid actions that could cause disorder.
17 Chairmanship, 260 Councillorship Positions Up for Election
ENSIEC had scheduled elections for 17 chairmanship positions and 260 ward councillorship seats across Enugu State for September 26.
The election is expected to take place under heightened security, with multiple federal and state security agencies participating in the security arrangement.
Agencies represented at the security meeting included the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and Department of State Services, DSS.
Others included the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, Federal and State Fire Services, and the Forest Guard.
The security agencies said their coordinated deployment would focus on protecting voters, electoral officials and election materials while preventing disruptions across identified flashpoints.
