Baba Mohbad, father of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has sparked fresh controversy after weighing in on the family dispute surrounding the burial of gospel singer, Toluwanisings, drawing parallels between the situation and his own prolonged paternity battle.
Key Highlights
- Baba Mohbad blamed Toluwanisings’ wife for the late singer’s rift with his family.
- Toluwanisings died on October 14, 2026, in Ibadan, leaving a burial dispute between his widow and father.
- Many social media users criticised Baba Mohbad’s remarks, while some backed his view on family responsibility.
- Baba Mohbad’s family reportedly rejected a proposed court-ordered DNA test for Mohbad’s son, Liam.
- The DNA matter has been adjourned until November 16.
His intervention has triggered criticism, with several social media users questioning his decision to blame the late singer’s wife for an alleged breakdown in his relationship with his family.
Toluwanisings, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, died on October 14, 2026, in Ibadan, leaving behind a disagreement between his widow and father over where he should be buried.
While his father reportedly wants his son laid to rest at the family home or beside his late mother, his widow prefers a cemetery burial.
What Baba Mohbad Said
Reacting to the controversy, Baba Mohbad questioned the circumstances surrounding the relationship between the late singer and his family, particularly the financial differences between his father and mother-in-law.
In a post shared by @Hybrid Ola, he was quoted as saying: “People are saying Toluwanisings’ case is like Mohbad’s case, but the mother-in-law is living in a good house with AC, while Toluwani’s dad is living in a room where he pays ₦35k per year. You married a man and turned him against his family.”
His comments appeared to suggest that marriage and the influence of a spouse could contribute to strained relationships between men and their parents.
However, the intervention has opened another debate about parental responsibility, estrangement and whether biological relationships automatically translate into an entitlement to a child’s support, particularly when the relationship has been damaged over the years.
Nigerians React
Some critics argued that the late singer’s father should not automatically blame his daughter-in-law without considering what might have caused the distance between him and his son.
@jorrey01 challenged the narrative, writing: “No one who abandoned a child has the right to dictate how they live their adult life. Blaming the wife is just a deflection. If you weren’t there to raise him, keep your opinions to yourself.”
Similarly, @dockykay mocked the situation, saying: “It seems irresponsible fathers have a WhatsApp group where they share foolish ideas.”
@Nwaanyịnightwear also expressed disapproval of Baba Mohbad’s intervention, writing: “If you listen to this man and believe him, you need to be in a psychiatric hospital.”
Another commenter, @Handyleema, questioned the suggestion that Toluwanisings’ wife is responsible for the family disagreement.
“And who told him that she turned him against his family? Like Toluwasings was a toddler who didn’t know right from wrong.”
However, not everyone dismissed Baba Mohbad’s concerns about family responsibility.
@toyinscharles suggested that the late singer could have done more to support his father, even if their relationship was not particularly close.
“I don’t think she turned him against his family, there was no relationship between the son and father that much prior to now but that still doesn’t mean the child shouldn’t take care of his parent, he should have at least rented a place for him.”
Another user, @Tilewawealth, supported the argument that wives could influence their husbands’ relationships with their families, insisting that the issue deserved more attention.
Meanwhile, @Omogabu urged people to consider the late singer’s perspective before reaching conclusions about the family dispute.
“It is so bad when you talk about the dead that can’t defend themselves. If Toluwasings is alive don’t you think he won’t have something to say as per why he distance himself from his family.
“Remember he came from a Muslim home, they might not want to have anything to do with him.”

Mohbad Paternity Case Still Unresolved
Beyond the Toluwanisings burial controversy, Baba Mohbad’s comments have also drawn attention to his own unresolved family issues.
His son, Mohbad, has remained at the centre of a prolonged paternity controversy involving the singer’s son, Liam.
On October 31, Baba Mohbad’s family reportedly rejected a proposed court-ordered DNA test for Liam, citing concerns over the lack of clarity surrounding the laboratory arrangements.
The matter was subsequently adjourned until November 16, with a new court officer expected to handle the process.
The two controversies have renewed conversations about parental responsibility, family estrangement, marriage and the difficulties of resolving disputes involving deceased relatives.
