The Ekiti State government has celebrated the graduation of 76 adult learners from a basic literacy programme, renewing its call for residents without formal education to take advantage of available learning opportunities.

Key Highlights

  • Ekiti’s adult education agency urges residents without formal schooling to enrol in literacy programmes.
  • Graduands encouraged to continue learning through post-literacy classes.
  • Top three learners received cash rewards from the council chairman.

Executive Secretary of the Ekiti State Agency for Adult and Non-Formal Education, Modupe Falade, made the appeal during the graduation ceremony held at the Basic Literacy Centre in Ikogosi-Ekiti, Ekameta Local Council Development Area.

According to a statement issued by the agency and made available in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, Falade described education as a vital instrument for personal empowerment and socio-economic advancement.

She stressed that expanding access to literacy programmes would help reduce illiteracy and equip adults and young people with essential reading and writing skills.

Oyebanji Administration’s Commitment To Education

Falade said the graduation of the 76 adult learners reflects the commitment of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration to making education accessible to all residents, particularly those who had missed opportunities for formal schooling.

She commended the Chairman of Ekameta LCDA, Adeniji Oluwaleye, and other council officials for providing financial support for the operation of the literacy centre.

The executive secretary appealed to educated residents to support the government’s literacy drive by encouraging people within their communities to participate in adult education programmes.

She specifically urged them to encourage illiterate adults and youths, including their neighbours and relatives, to enrol in literacy programmes.

Graduands Urged To Keep Learning

Falade also advised the graduating learners not to regard the completion of their basic literacy training as the end of their educational journey.

She encouraged them to continue developing their knowledge and skills through post-literacy classes and other available educational opportunities.

Speaking on behalf of the graduands, Dorcas Akinyemi thanked the Ekiti State government and the leadership of Ekameta LCDA for making the programme accessible to them.

Akinyemi assured the government that the beneficiaries would build on the knowledge acquired and remain dedicated to further learning.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of cash rewards by the council chairman to three learners who emerged first, second and third in academic performance.
