  • Biodun Oyebanji has been sworn in for a second term as Ekiti State governor.
  • He won the June 20, 2026 governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
  • Oyebanji secured 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Oluwole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
  • His second-term agenda includes roads, healthcare, electricity, water supply, agriculture and economic development.
  • The administration’s inauguration theme is “The Good Work Continues.”

Oyebanji Wins Second Term With 319,224 Votes

Oyebanji, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, won the June 20 governorship election with 319,224 votes, defeating Oluwole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party, who received 40,543 votes.

Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 12,872 votes, according to results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

INEC declared Oyebanji the winner on June 21, 2026. The governor and his deputy, Monisade Afuye, subsequently received their certificates of return from the commission on June 23.

His swearing-in marks the beginning of another four-year mandate to lead the South-West state.

Development Tops Oyebanji’s Second-Term Agenda

The Ekiti State Government has pledged to intensify development efforts during Oyebanji’s second term, with priority given to road infrastructure, healthcare, electricity, water supply, agriculture, human capital development and economic opportunities.

Oyeniyi Adebayo, chairman of the Second-Term Inauguration Planning Committee and Chief of Staff to the Governor, said the administration would consolidate its achievements from the first term while accelerating development across the state.

The inauguration theme, “The Good Work Continues,” reflects the government’s stated commitment to sustaining existing programmes and introducing additional initiatives to improve residents’ welfare.

The administration has also outlined plans to construct up to 1,500 kilometres of rural roads through various interventions, including partnerships with development organisations.

Other priorities include improving agricultural productivity, expanding access to essential services and strengthening economic activities across Ekiti State’s 16 local government areas.

Oyebanji Dissolves State Executive Council Ahead of Inauguration

Ahead of the second-term inauguration, Oyebanji dissolved the State Executive Council on October 12, bringing his first-term cabinet to an end.

However, the Secretary to the State Government, Habibat Adubiaro; Chief of Staff, Niyi Adebayo; and Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, were exempted from the dissolution.

The move came as the administration prepared for a new phase of governance, with expectations that ongoing projects would be completed and additional policies introduced to improve public services and economic opportunities.

Expectations for Oyebanji’s Second Term

With Oyebanji now sworn in for another four years, attention will turn to how his administration implements its development plans and responds to the needs of residents.

Key areas to watch include road construction, access to healthcare and electricity, rural development, agricultural growth and job creation.

Residents and stakeholders will be looking for measurable results from the administration’s promises, particularly improvements in infrastructure, public services and living standards across Ekiti State.
