In a statement issued on Monday, Eze described Showunmi as an “unrepentant political turncoat,” alleging that his remarks against Atiku were aimed at winning favour with President Bola Tinubu’s camp.
The ADC chieftain condemned Showunmi’s use of the expression “emir complex” against Atiku, describing it as an attempt to divert attention from the country’s pressing problems.
He argued that political disagreements should focus on substantive national issues rather than personal attacks against opposition figures.
“Showunmi’s latest diatribe was a shameful spectacle of political opportunism,” Eze said, accusing him of abandoning principles in pursuit of personal ambition.
‘Address Cost Of Living, Insecurity’
Eze challenged Showunmi to address the worsening cost of living, poverty, insecurity and economic hardship confronting Nigerians instead of attacking opposition leaders.
According to him, millions of Nigerians are struggling with rising food prices, transportation costs, electricity bills, education expenses and other basic necessities under Tinubu’s administration.
“If Showunmi has anything meaningful to contribute to the national debate, let him address the devastating cost of living, the threatening spate of insecurity, the deepening poverty and the widespread economic woes confronting Nigerians,” he said.
Eze further accused Showunmi of acting as a political attack dog for the president, alleging that his criticism of opposition figures is intended to distract from questions about the government’s performance.
He maintained that Nigerians need constructive arguments and practical solutions rather than political insults and smear campaigns.

Eze Defends Atiku, Amaechi
The ADC chieftain also defended the right of the party’s presidential hopeful, Atiku Abubakar, and its vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, to speak about poverty and economic hardship.
He dismissed suggestions that politicians who have previously served in government should be disqualified from commenting on the country’s current challenges.
According to Eze, previous experience in public office should give political leaders a better understanding of governance and the responsibility to propose solutions when government policies fail to meet citizens’ expectations.
He challenged Showunmi to present evidence of improvements in Nigerians’ living conditions if he believed Tinubu’s administration is performing well.
“Political loyalty must never become an excuse for intellectual dishonesty, just as the pursuit of appointment must never become a justification for abandoning decency and responsible public discourse,” Eze said.
Describing Tinubu’s government as a disappointment, Eze argued that its economic and security policies had failed to deliver the relief and stability Nigerians expected.
He said the 2027 general elections would provide voters with an opportunity to hold the ruling party accountable for its performance.
