Results of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries for National Assembly aspirants in Rivers and Bayelsa States are being awaited with baited breathe.
In Rivers State, news that filtered in late yesterday had it that virtually all aspirants for the House of Representatives allied to Governor Siminalayi Fubara were disqualified, while those in the camp of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike scaled through.

A similar scenario played out during the screening of the state House of Assembly aspirants, when all those aligned to the governor were disqualified while those for the minister were all cleared.
The situation is deepening tension in the state as supporters of the governor accuse the leadership of the APC of betrayal and working ito perpetuate the influence of the FCT minister in the state whereas there is a sitting governor.
Meanwhile in Bayelsa State, Chairman of the National Assembly Primaries Electoral Panel, Chief Solomon Ogba, at a press briefing on Saturday in Yenagoa, pledged to conduct a fair and transparent direct primaries.
Ogba noted that all relevant institutions involved in election conduct were present, adding that all sensitive and non-sensitive materials had been distributed to polling areas across the state.
“The APC in Bayelsa State has decided to rely on Section 84, Subsection 2 of the Electoral Act 2026, which provides for direct primaries for this exercise.

“We have painstakingly selected people we believe will discharge this responsibility fairly,” he said.
Ogba stated that persons of proven integrity had been selected to conduct the polls in all wards and federal constituencies.
He assured stakeholders that the primaries would be conducted transparently and called on party members and the public to support the process.
Ogba commended the Bayelsa Government, residents, and the APC for creating a peaceful atmosphere for the exercise to hold.
