Former adult film actress Deyci Alejandra Omana Ortiz, widely known by her stage name Amaranta Hank, has officially taken her seat in Colombia’s Senate after winning election on a platform advocating stronger legal protections for adult-content creators.
The 33-year-old was sworn in on Monday in Bogotá as a senator representing the left-wing Historic Pact coalition, marking a remarkable transition from journalism and the adult entertainment industry to national politics.
Ortiz, who worked as a journalist before entering the adult film industry in 2017, left the profession two years later to pursue public service. She was elected earlier this year in Colombia’s Norte de Santander region.
Her campaign centred on improving the welfare of workers in the adult-content industry, promising to introduce legislation that would guarantee social security, labour rights and legal recognition for those employed in the sector.
According to Ortiz, many people working in the industry remain vulnerable to exploitation because their profession is largely unregulated and lacks adequate legal protection.
During her campaign, she argued that prejudice and misinformation have prevented governments from addressing the needs of adult-content workers.
Responding to criticism over her past career, Ortiz maintained that a person’s previous profession should not determine their eligibility for public office.
She said her experiences gave her firsthand insight into inequality, discrimination and social exclusion, which she intends to address through legislation.

Ortiz also pledged to champion improved mental health services and stronger measures to combat sexual abuse, saying her priorities extend beyond issues affecting the adult entertainment industry.
She secured her Senate seat through the Historic Pact coalition, currently the largest political bloc in Colombia’s Senate, after finishing 23rd on the party’s candidate list.
Following her victory, Ortiz described her election as part of Colombia’s ongoing political transformation, expressing gratitude to voters for their confidence and support.
