  • A relative of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding the actor’s death, claiming that several details remain unclear to immediate family members.
  • David Ekubo alleged that some family members were not promptly informed of the actor’s death and that the relative who received his remains was not allowed to view the body.
  • The family member said unanswered questions about Alexx Ekubo’s final moments have created concerns among relatives seeking more clarity about events leading to his death.
  • David Ekubo also questioned aspects of the funeral arrangements, including the decision to wear white during the burial, claiming some family members did not approve of it.
  • As of the time of reporting, Alexx Ekubo’s management team and representatives had not responded to the allegations.

The development comes days after the actor was laid to rest in his hometown in Abia State, following his death on May 11 at the age of 40 after a reported battle with stage four kidney cancer.

In a statement released on Thursday, June 25, David Ekubo, who identified himself as the late actor’s cousin, alleged that the Ekubo family had not received full explanations about events leading up to Alexx’s passing.

According to the statement, the family was troubled by what it described as unanswered questions surrounding the actor’s final moments.

“With grave pain, heaviness and sorrow, the family of Ikenna Alex Ekubo advises the public that the events leading up to his passing have been unclear,” David stated.

He further alleged that some family members were not immediately informed when the actor died and claimed that the relative who officially received Alexx’s remains from the mortuary was allegedly not allowed to view the body.

David said such developments contributed to concerns among some members of the family, who wanted more clarity about what happened before the actor’s death.

The statement also questioned aspects of the funeral arrangements, including the decision to wear white during parts of the burial activities.

According to the family member, some relatives disagreed with the choice, saying it appeared more like a celebration of life rather than a mourning ceremony for a 40-year-old whose life ended unexpectedly.

“The Ekubo family did not approve the wearing of white for what seemed to be a celebration of life for a 40-year-old Alex Ekubo whose life was suddenly cut short,” the statement alleged.

David also claimed that Alexx’s biological mother and only sibling were yet to receive a formal explanation regarding the circumstances surrounding his passing.

He described the actor’s death as painful and untimely, while questioning why immediate family members had not been provided with further details.

As of the time of this report, Alexx Ekubo’s management team and representatives have not issued an official response to the allegations.

The actor’s death has continued to attract tributes from colleagues, fans and loved ones, with many remembering him for his contributions to Nollywood and his personality off-screen.

Earlier, reports surfaced that a tribute from Anwuli, described as Alexx Ekubo’s wife, appeared in his funeral programme. In the emotional message, she recalled how the actor supported her during difficult moments and described their relationship as one built on love and faith.
