Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo will be laid to rest today in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State, as family, friends, colleagues, and fans prepare to bid the beloved actor a final farewell.

  • The funeral procession stopped at the palace of the Eze Arochukwu before heading home.
  • Nollywood stars, including IK Ogbonna and Ini Edo, attended the burial events.
  • Tributes continue for the actor, who reportedly died at age 40 after battling kidney cancer.

The actor’s remains arrived in the community on Wednesday, June 17, marking an emotional homecoming after his passing last month. Residents, relatives, and well-wishers gathered in large numbers to receive him as his body was brought back to his ancestral home for his final rites.

The convoy conveying his remains made a symbolic stop at the palace of the Eze Arochukwu before proceeding to the family residence, where preparations continued ahead of the burial ceremony.

Close friend and colleague, IK Ogbonna, led mourners during the solemn procession, walking alongside the vehicle carrying Alex’s remains as the community paid tribute to the late movie star.

Several Nollywood personalities also travelled to Arochukwu to honour their colleague and friend. Ini Edo, Yomi Casual, Omoni Oboli and others were among those seen making their way to the community, visibly emotional as they prepared to pay their last respects.

Mourners wore customised shirts bearing Alex Ekubo’s image and carried his photographs, celebrating the life and legacy of the actor known for his charisma, talent, and contributions to the Nigerian film industry.

Alex Ekubo, who died at the age of 40 after a private battle with kidney cancer, is survived by his parents, siblings, and other loved ones.

As Arochukwu prepares to lay one of its sons to rest, tributes continue to pour in from across Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
