The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has zoned its presidential ticket for the 2027 general election to the southern region of the country.
The decision was reached on Saturday, during the party’s national convention, where delegates also agreed that the party’s presidential candidate for the 2031 election would emerge from the North.
The resolution followed a motion moved by Afam Victor and seconded by Seyi Sowumi during deliberations at the convention.
Party leaders said the arrangement was aimed at promoting regional balance, inclusion, and fairness within the party’s leadership structure ahead of the next electoral cycle.

In another key development at the convention, delegates ratified all members of the party’s National Executive Committee following a motion presented by Victor Umeh.
The convention also attracted several political figures and stakeholders amid growing realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
The zoning decision comes at a time when conversations around power rotation and coalition-building are gaining momentum across Nigeria’s political landscape as parties position themselves for the next presidential race.
