Professor Alexander Akpodiete has intensified consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections, holding a strategic meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Abuja, as part of efforts to advance his bid for the Delta Central senatorial seat.

The meeting brought Akpodiete into discussions with top figures of the party, including its National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, with deliberations focusing on strengthening party cohesion, expanding grassroots structures, and charting a clear path toward electoral success.

Key Highlights:

  • Alexander Akpodiete held talks with leaders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress over his 2027 Delta Central Senate ambition.
  • The meeting focused on strengthening the party and preparing for future elections.
  • Seriake Dickson praised Akpodiete’s leadership experience and suitability for public office.
  • Akpodiete promised to focus on economic growth, youth empowerment, infrastructure, and better welfare if elected.
  • He called for unity within the party to improve its chances in the 2027 elections.

Sources indicated that the consultations form part of a broader strategy by the NDC to reposition itself nationally while identifying credible contenders for key elective offices, including the Senate.

Addressing journalists after the session, Sen. Dickson described Akpodiete as a seasoned professional whose experience in law and governance places him in good standing for legislative responsibilities.

He reiterated the party’s resolve to nurture leaders driven by competence, integrity, and a commitment to public service.

According to Sen. Dickson, the NDC remains focused on building a political movement anchored on democratic values and responsive leadership, particularly for a younger generation seeking direction and inclusion in governance.

He emphasized that true leadership demands discipline and the responsible exercise of power in the interest of the broader public, noting that such principles are essential to sustaining Nigeria’s constitutional democracy.

Responding, Akpodiete said his ambition to represent Delta Central in the Senate is rooted in a desire to deliver practical results and elevate the standard of representation in the district.

He outlined priorities around economic revitalisation, youth empowerment, infrastructure, and improved social welfare.

The aspirant added that the engagement with the party’s leadership reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen the NDC as a viable platform capable of addressing the needs of Nigerians beyond political rhetoric.

Akpodiete also called for unity within the party, stressing that collective commitment would be crucial in securing victory at the polls.
