Naval operatives observed the occupants allegedly dropping off three individuals at a concealed location before speeding away into adjoining creeks, prompting further investigation by a patrol team.
A subsequent search of the area led to the discovery of a hidden camp suspected to be used as a staging point for hostile operations.
During the raid, officers recovered 50 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition concealed inside a water container.
Security personnel also recovered several other items, including old vehicle batteries, electrical wires, and containers filled with unidentified foul-smelling substances wrapped with red straps.
Preliminary findings by the navy suggest some of the materials may have been intended for the fabrication of improvised explosive devices or for acts of pipeline vandalism and economic sabotage within the region.
The suspected camp was destroyed during the operation to prevent further criminal use, while the recovered ammunition and other exhibits have been taken into custody for further investigation.
The navy said the operation underscores its commitment to maintaining security across strategic waterways and preventing criminal groups from establishing operational bases in the Niger Delta region.
