Yobe State has commenced the screening of 342 senior civil servants for promotion from Grade Level 14 to Grade Level 16, as part of efforts to strengthen merit, transparency and due process in the state public service.
The exercise is being conducted by a high-level promotion committee chaired by the Head of Service, Abdullahi Shehu.
The committee, comprising key stakeholders in the state civil service administration, is expected to assess the officers in line with extant civil service rules, regulations and established principles of merit.
Addressing members of the committee, Shehu stressed the need for fairness, transparency, integrity and professionalism throughout the exercise.
He urged members to resist favouritism, undue influence and other practices capable of compromising the credibility of the promotion process.
According to him, the exercise must be based strictly on merit and due process to ensure that deserving officers are given opportunities for career advancement.

Shehu reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Governor Mai Buni to staff welfare, career progression and professionalism within the state civil service.
He also urged members of the committee to discharge their responsibilities with the fear of Allah and a strong sense of duty, describing the exercise as a sensitive assignment requiring fairness and impartiality.
The head of service further called on civil servants across the state to remain dedicated to their responsibilities and support government policies and programmes aimed at improving public service delivery.
The current exercise follows an earlier promotion sitting held on February 3, 2026, during which the files of 569 officers were successfully considered.
With another 342 files now under consideration, the number of senior civil servants whose cases have been considered for career advancement in 2026 has risen to 911.
The state government said the exercise is aimed at ensuring a credible and transparent career progression system within the civil service.
The promotion committee ended its meeting with a commitment to uphold merit, transparency, fairness and due process in considering the officers’ files.
