The approval was announced in a public notice issued by the Yobe State Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Tourism and Solid Minerals. The notice was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Zanna Ibrahim Ali.

According to the ministry, the projects are intended to provide modern trading facilities, improve the business environment, support organized commercial activities, facilitate the movement of goods and agricultural produce, and create opportunities for investment and enterprise development.

The latest approval forms part of the state government’s ongoing investment in commercial infrastructure under the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni.

The government said modern markets have already been completed in Damaturu, Potiskum, Nguru, Gashua, Ngalda and Yunusari.

It added that construction of the Geidam Modern Market has exceeded 90 percent completion, while work is continuing on similar projects in Machina, Buni Yadi and Yusufari.

With the addition of the four newly approved markets, the state government said it has initiated a total of 14 modern and ultra-modern market projects across Yobe.

Officials said the projects are expected to improve agricultural marketing, support the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, create employment opportunities, enhance internally generated revenue and attract private investment.

The government added that the expansion of market infrastructure is aimed at supporting long-term economic growth and strengthening commercial activities across communities in Yobe State.
