Nigerian videographer, Femi Dapson, has revealed why he walked away from what many would consider a dream position at Winners’ Chapel, despite having risen to what he described as a chief executive officer-level role and gaining access to high-profile figures.

Key Highlights

  • Nigerian videographer Femi Dapson has revealed why he left a senior role at Winners’ Chapel.
  • Dapson said he had risen to a CEO-level position despite not having a university degree.
  • He gained access to high-profile personalities, including meetings with presidents.
  • He left the church role because he feared becoming too comfortable and wanted to pursue greater financial opportunities.
  • After relocating to Lagos, Dapson said he initially worked as a cleaner.

Dapson made the revelation while speaking with media personality Chude Jideonwo, where he opened up about the unconventional decisions that shaped his career.

According to Dapson, he had reached the highest level of his church career despite not having a university degree, wearing suits and ties, and meeting presidents through his work.

However, rather than settle into the comfortable position, he said he became worried that the privileges would make him complacent and prevent him from pursuing bigger financial opportunities.

“I had to leave Winners, honestly, because I was like, if I stay here, I’ll get too comfortable. At the time, I was CEO level. I was already working at the highest level of church. No uni degree,” he said.

The videographer added that his growing access to powerful people almost made him forget his bigger ambition.

“I was wearing ties. I was meeting with presidents. I was like, Omo, don’t get carried away. You need to go and make money. And then I left. I came to Lagos,” he recalled.

His decision, however, came with a dramatic change in circumstances.

Upon arriving in Lagos, Dapson said he had to take up a cleaning job before eventually stumbling on a job advertisement in a newspaper.

“And when I got to Lagos, I did a cleaning job for a bit. And I just saw a job opportunity from a newspaper actually. At the back of a newspaper. And I just said, let me just apply,” he said.

The application reportedly placed him in an interview room alongside candidates with university degrees.

“There were people with BSc there, bro. I kid you not. There were people with BSc. And I was there in the interview. I was like, Omo, this is crazy,” Dapson said.

Despite lacking a university degree, he said his previous experience and confidence helped him secure the opportunity.

Dapson explained that he presented his experience at Winners’ Chapel as an advantage and convinced the prospective employers that he could make their work easier.

“But when I entered there, like I said, I know how to make mouth. So I sold them dreams, and they were so excited.

“I was telling them that, see, I will make your life easy. This is what I was doing in Winners. And they were so happy about it,” he said.
