President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Muttaqha Darma as the new minister of jousing and urban development, following a minor reshuffle.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Friday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, just minutes before 4:00 p.m., marking Darma’s formal entry into the cabinet.
Darma, a former Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), was confirmed by the Senate on Thursday, after undergoing screening.
His nomination had earlier been communicated to lawmakers in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
During his screening, Darma pledged to collaborate closely with the National Assembly to tackle Nigeria’s deepening housing crisis.
He noted that more than 100 million Nigerians currently lack access to adequate housing, describing the situation as a critical national challenge requiring urgent intervention.
He also outlined plans to improve institutional leadership within the housing sector, expand access to affordable homes, and strengthen regulatory frameworks.

Darma replaces Ahmed Dangiwa, whose removal followed a Federal Executive Council reshuffle announced earlier in the week.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, said the cabinet changes were aimed at reinforcing coordination in governance and accelerating economic reforms under the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Dangiwa officially handed over the ministry on Thursday, in line with directives from the SGF’s office.
