A Tinubu convoy Lagos viral video showing a group of people chanting “Óle! Óle!” as vehicles associated with President Bola Tinubu’s convoy passed along a Lagos road has sparked heated reactions on social media, with users offering sharply different interpretations of what the footage represents.

The video, circulated widely on September 30, 2026, was shared by commentator Kayode Ogundamisi and reportedly shows people gathered along a roadside at night as vehicles with flashing lights pass. The Yoruba word “óle” translates to “thief”, but the footage itself does not establish the identities, size or political affiliation of those chanting.

Key Highlights

  • A Tinubu convoy Lagos viral video shows people chanting “Óle! Óle!” as vehicles pass.
  • The footage circulated widely on social media on September 30, 2026.
  • The video was presented online as showing Lagos residents reacting to Tinubu’s return from Europe.
  • Tinubu returned to Lagos on September 29 after a four-week working vacation in London and Paris.
  • Critics described the chants as a sign of dissatisfaction, while supporters questioned whether the small group represented Lagos residents generally.
  • The video does not independently establish the political affiliation or wider views of the people shown.

Viral Video Shows ‘Óle’ Chants Along Lagos Road

The approximately 90-second clip shows a group of young men gathered near a concrete roadside barrier at night as vehicles with flashing lights move along the road.

Voices can be heard repeatedly chanting “Óle! Óle!” as the convoy passes.

The video was presented by its original poster as showing Lagos residents greeting Tinubu’s convoy after his return from Europe.

However, the footage does not independently establish the identities of the people in the group, their political affiliations or whether they represented a broader section of Lagos residents.

A similar report by Akelicious also described the footage as showing people chanting “Thief! Thief!” as Tinubu’s convoy passed along an airport road in Lagos.

Tinubu Returns to Lagos After Four Weeks in Europe

Tinubu returned to Nigeria on September 29 after spending about four weeks in Europe on what the Presidency described as a working vacation.

The President departed Nigeria on August 30, travelled first to London and later proceeded to Paris, where he held engagements that included a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and meetings with business leaders.

His aircraft arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at about 6:22 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Presidency said Tinubu chose to return through Lagos ahead of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary and to honour the memory of the late MKO Abiola.

Social Media Reactions Split Over Meaning of Video

The video has triggered contrasting interpretations across social media.

Some users described the chants as evidence of public dissatisfaction with the government, particularly over economic pressures associated with the administration’s reforms.

Others argued that the footage showed only a small group and could not reasonably be used to represent the views of Lagos residents generally.

Some commenters also questioned whether the people in the video were politically affiliated with opposition movements, although such claims have not been independently established from the footage.

Supporters Question Representation of Lagos Residents

Supporters of Tinubu challenged the presentation of the video as evidence of a broad reaction from Lagos residents.

Some commenters claimed the people captured in the footage were supporters of Peter Obi, while others questioned their location and the circumstances surrounding the recording.

Those claims remain social media assertions and cannot be established from the video alone.

The footage does not provide enough information to determine the political affiliation of the people chanting or whether they were acting independently or as part of an organised group.

Airport Traffic Disruptions Also Draw Reactions

Tinubu’s return to Lagos was accompanied by heightened security arrangements around the airport and sections of the route.

Reports said road restrictions associated with the President’s movement caused traffic disruptions and delays for some road users.

The issue generated a separate stream of reactions online, with some users focusing on the impact of presidential security arrangements rather than the chants heard in the video.

Video Fuels Wider Debate Ahead of 2027

The circulation of the footage has also drawn the incident into wider political discussions ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections.

The Presidency has defended Tinubu’s economic reforms as necessary measures, while opposition figures and other critics have continued to raise concerns about their impact on Nigerians.

Tinubu’s return to Lagos also comes as the President prepares to participate in activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary and hold meetings with political leaders and associates.

However, the viral footage itself provides only a limited snapshot of events.

It shows a group of people chanting as vehicles passed, but it does not establish how many people shared their views, why they were chanting, their political affiliations or whether their reaction reflected the broader mood in Lagos.
