Harvestfield Healthcare FZE has commenced commercial production of Synera DuoForte, a next-generation insecticide-treated mosquito net in Nigeria, strengthening the country’s capacity to manufacture critical malaria prevention products locally.
Operations at the company’s manufacturing facility in the Harvestfield Free Trade Zone, Ogun State, began on September 13, 2026, with the facility already supplying a World Bank-funded programme reaching 31 states.
Key Highlights
- Harvestfield Healthcare has commenced local production of Synera DuoForte mosquito nets in Ogun State.
- The facility began operations on September 13, 2026.
- The nets combine a pyrethroid and chlorfenapyr, two insecticides with different modes of action.
- The facility is described as Nigeria’s first wholly Nigerian-owned manufacturer of this class of dual active ingredient long-lasting insecticidal nets.
- The facility is already supplying a World Bank-funded programme reaching 31 states.
- WHO recommends pyrethroid-chlorfenapyr nets in areas where mosquitoes have developed resistance to pyrethroids.
- Harvestfield says its group has operated in Nigeria’s vector-control sector for 26 years.
- The company says it has delivered more than 42 million insecticide-treated nets across Nigeria’s 36 states.
- The local manufacturing facility is intended to reduce dependence on imported mosquito nets and strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare supply chain.
Harvestfield Healthcare Expands Local Manufacturing
The manufacturing facility produces Synera DuoForte under an agreement with GDM Health Products, which developed and owns the dual active ingredient long-lasting insecticidal net.
Unlike conventional insecticide-treated nets that primarily rely on pyrethroids, Synera DuoForte combines a pyrethroid with chlorfenapyr, an insecticide that works through a different mode of action.
The approach is designed to address the growing challenge of insecticide resistance among malaria-transmitting mosquitoes.
According to the World Health Organisation, pyrethroid-chlorfenapyr nets are designed to provide greater protection against mosquitoes that have developed resistance to pyrethroid insecticides. WHO issued a strong recommendation for their deployment instead of pyrethroid-only nets in areas with pyrethroid resistance.
Synera DuoForte Targets Pyrethroid Resistance
Pyrethroid resistance has become an important challenge in malaria control because conventional nets can lose some of their insecticidal effectiveness when mosquitoes become resistant to the chemicals used on them.
Dual active ingredient nets use two insecticides with different modes of action. WHO says this approach can increase the killing effect against pyrethroid-resistant malaria vectors.
The latest WHO malaria guidance continues to identify pyrethroid-chlorfenapyr insecticide-treated nets as an important option in settings where malaria vectors are resistant to pyrethroids.
Manufacturing Facility Meets Quality Standards
Harvestfield said Synera DuoForte is a WHO-prequalified product developed and held under prequalification by GDM Health Products.
The Ogun State facility is also included as an approved manufacturing location under the product’s prequalification, according to the company.
Harvestfield further said the facility is certified by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, and is ISO certified.
The company said these quality systems provide the basis for manufacturing mosquito nets for national malaria programmes and other health interventions requiring internationally recognised manufacturing standards.
Jon Bastow, a representative of GDM Health Products, said the partnership would help bring Synera DuoForte to Nigeria while supporting the prequalification of the Ogun State manufacturing facility.

Health Ministry Welcomes Local Production
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, described local manufacturing of health products as an important component of Nigeria’s health security strategy.
“Building the capacity to manufacture our own health products is central to Nigeria’s health security,” Pate said.
He noted that a Nigeria-based facility producing next-generation insecticide-treated nets to international standards and supplying programmes across 31 states represents the type of domestic manufacturing capability the Federal Government is seeking to develop.
Harvestfield Builds on 26 Years of Vector Control Experience
The company’s move into manufacturing builds on its long-standing presence in Nigeria’s vector-control sector.
Harvestfield said its group has operated in the sector for 26 years and has delivered more than 42 million insecticide-treated nets across all 36 states.
The company has also served as an exclusive national distribution partner for WHO-prequalified mosquito nets since 2018, according to the statement.
The transition from distribution to manufacturing is expected to strengthen the domestic supply chain for insecticide-treated nets.
Local Production Could Reduce Import Dependence
Harvestfield said manufacturing mosquito nets in Nigeria could reduce reliance on overseas supply schedules and the lengthy shipping periods associated with imported products.
The company said local production would also improve the ability of the supply chain to respond to changing malaria-control requirements and patterns of insecticide resistance.
Dr Abdul Mukhtar of the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain, PVAC, said the initiative was designed to support Nigeria’s transition from importing health products to producing them domestically.
He said the establishment of a facility capable of meeting international standards and supplying products at national scale was consistent with the objectives of strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare value chain.
Harvestfield Plans Broader Healthcare Manufacturing
The investment is also expected to create local manufacturing, technical, quality-control and regulatory capabilities that could support the production of additional healthcare products.
For Harvestfield, the mosquito-net facility represents an initial platform for expanding healthcare manufacturing capacity in Nigeria.
The development comes amid efforts to strengthen domestic production of health products and reduce reliance on imported medical commodities.
