The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) have agreed to deepen collaboration on capacity building and technology innovation to enhance productivity, improve operational efficiency and support sustainable development in the electricity distribution sector.
The Managing Director of EEDC, Engr. Vincent Ekwekwu, stated this on Wednesday when he received the newly elected Executive Committee of the NSE Enugu Branch at the company’s corporate headquarters, Power House, Enugu.

EEDC Seeks NSE Support for Technology Innovation
Ekwekwu congratulated the newly elected NSE Executive Committee and commended its commitment to advancing the engineering profession in Enugu State.
He emphasised the importance of building human capacity and ensuring that only certified and qualified professionals practise within the engineering sector.
According to him, technology must be leveraged to optimise EEDC’s operational processes, improve revenue generation and promote long-term sustainability.
“Many of our activities are still manually executed, and we want to rely on your wealth of experience to automate these processes.
“We want to see those experiences translate into tangible outcomes that reflect the success of our collaboration,” he said.
EEDC Wants Staff Trained, More Engineers to Join NSE
The EEDC Managing Director called for the NSE’s support in training company staff to broaden their professional exposure and encourage more internal engineers to register as official NSE members.
He reaffirmed EEDC’s commitment to working with the engineering body on future programmes and initiatives.
Ekwekwu also briefed the delegation on recent developments within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, including EEDC’s evolution and the emergence of state-focused subsidiary distribution companies across the South-East following regulatory reforms in the sector.
EEDC Seeks Tailored Engineering Solutions
EEDC’s Group Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Pauli Isiguzo, assured the NSE delegation of the company’s support in identifying potential members within EEDC.
Isiguzo said greater integration between the company and the professional body would promote idea-sharing, regulatory compliance and professional accountability.
He urged the NSE leadership to develop tailored training modules that reflect the operational realities of the electricity distribution industry.
“There are specific challenges within our operating environment that require home-grown initiatives.
“It is through local engineers like you that these customised solutions can be developed,” he said.

NSE Pledges Support for EEDC
The NSE Enugu Branch Chairman, Mr Loveday Osondu, said the visit was part of his administration’s efforts to strengthen relationships with key institutions, government agencies and corporate stakeholders involved in engineering and social development.
Osondu acknowledged EEDC’s role in supporting the socio-economic development of the South-East.
“Electricity remains fundamental to industrialisation, commerce, healthcare, education, and modern life.
“As engineers, we recognise the vital importance of a functional, reliable, and sustainable power distribution system,” he said.
He said the NSE was ready to collaborate with EEDC in technical knowledge sharing, engineering safety, infrastructure development, public enlightenment and capacity building.
EEDC, NSE Identify Areas for Collaboration
The meeting provided an opportunity for both organisations to identify areas of mutual cooperation, particularly in professional development, technology adoption, engineering safety and infrastructure improvement.
The collaboration is also expected to support knowledge transfer and encourage the development of practical engineering solutions tailored to challenges within the South-East electricity distribution environment.

The visit formally introduced the NSE Enugu Branch’s new leadership to EEDC while providing a platform for both organisations to deepen their institutional relationship and establish strategic areas of cooperation.
