In what could mark a significant shift in Taraba State‘s security architecture, the state government has pledged full support for the immediate establishment of the newly created Nigeria Army 10 Division in Jalingo, offering land and critical infrastructure to facilitate its take-off.

The commitment came on Monday as a high-powered delegation from the army headquarters, Abuja, led by Major General I. O. Bassey, arrived in the state to assess available facilities, verify resources and engage the state government on the requirements for establishing the new military formation.

Representing Governor Agbu Kefas, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Gebon Kataps, said the state government is pleased with the decision to establish the army division in Jalingo, and was ready to provide the necessary support to ensure its immediate take-off.

Kataps said the protection of lives and property remains one of the administration’s major priorities, stressing that the government would continue to support initiatives capable of strengthening security and creating a safer environment for residents.

He said the state has sufficient land to accommodate strategic military formations and other security infrastructure, adding that the state government is prepared to facilitate land allocation in Karim-Lamido, Bali, Wukari and Gembu for brigades and battalions that may eventually be established under the new division.

The state government’s offer, according to Kataps, underscores its willingness to work beyond the immediate establishment of the division in Jalingo, and support the development of a wider military structure capable of serving different parts of the state.

“The presence of the 10 Division in Jalingo will further strengthen Taraba’s security architecture while contributing to peace, stability and development in the state and beyond,” Kataps said.

During the visit, the delegation assessed existing facilities, verified available resources and examined additional requirements considered necessary for the effective operation of the new formation.

The assessment is also aimed at determining the extent to which existing state facilities and resources could support the immediate commencement of operations while longer-term infrastructure requirements are developed.

While Jalingo is expected to serve as the headquarters of the new division, the state government’s readiness to make land available in Karim-Lamido, Bali, Wukari and Gembu suggests that the proposed military structure could eventually have a broader geographical reach across Taraba.
