The Delta State government has indefinitely suspended the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, shortly after he was reportedly remanded for 14 days by an Effurun State High Court over issues arising from the alleged assault of the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Protocol, Mr. Simon Mudi, popularly known as Temple.

The suspension, effective immediately, was announced in a statement signed on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Kingsley Emu.

According to the statement, the decision was taken to enable security agencies conduct an unbiased investigation into allegations linking Izeze to the assault on Mudi during the incident at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun.

The state government said the suspension is necessary to allow the investigation to proceed without interference, stressing that it remains committed to public safety, law and order and the sanctity of human lives.

The latest development is coming shortly after Izeze was reportedly remanded for 14 days by the Effurun State High Court over the same incident.

Details of the charges against the commissioner were not immediately available as of press time.

However, Izeze was seen in a viral video entering a police Toyota Sienna vehicle after the court proceedings before being driven away from the court premises.

The incident occurred in the aftermath of the APC Delta Central stakeholders’ meeting held at the PTI Conference Centre, Effurun, which had generated controversy over reports of violence at the venue.

Izeze had earlier accused the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Area, Chief Tony Ofoni, of orchestrating an assault against him during the incident.

He alleged that he was handcuffed, beaten and dispossessed of personal belongings, including his prescription glasses, wristwatch and cash.

The commissioner also maintained that he was unarmed during the incident and vowed to pursue legal action against those he accused of assaulting him.
