Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has urged former President Olusegun Obasanjo to stop making former Vice President Atiku Abubakar an “election-year scapegoat,” accusing him of reviving allegations against his former deputy whenever Nigeria approaches a presidential election.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Frank alleged that Obasanjo has developed a pattern of attacking Atiku every election cycle, insisting that Nigerians have grown weary of the recurring accusations.

The former APC spokesman noted that while Obasanjo has every right to withhold his support for Atiku’s 2027 presidential ambition, he should refrain from repeatedly launching public attacks against him.

Frank argued that Atiku played a pivotal role during the Obasanjo administration, particularly in assembling the team of technocrats and professionals who delivered many of the achievements credited to the government.

He therefore challenged the former president to accept responsibility for both the successes and shortcomings of his administration instead of consistently portraying Atiku as the source of its failures.

Frank, who also serves as the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, further maintained that Obasanjo recognises Atiku’s competence and leadership capacity.

He added that the decision on who becomes Nigeria’s next president ultimately rests with the electorate, stressing that if it is destined for Atiku Abubakar to emerge president, no individual would be able to stop it.
