Super Falcons goalkeeper and vice-captain Chiamaka Nnadozie has expressed confidence that Nigeria will bounce back from its opening defeat to Malawi by defeating Zambia in Saturday’s crucial Group C clash at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The defending champions were stunned 3-2 by Malawi in their tournament opener on Tuesday, leaving the nine-time African champions needing a positive result against Zambia in Rabat to revive their campaign and boost their chances of reaching the knockout stage.
Speaking during the team’s pre-match press conference, Nnadozie said the players had thoroughly reviewed their performance against Malawi and were determined to make amends.
“We’ve learned from our mistakes. Now it’s about making things right,” she said. “We know what is expected of us, and every player in camp understands the magnitude of this game.
“We have analysed where things went wrong against Malawi, worked hard on the training pitch, and our focus is entirely on taking all three points against Zambia.”

Nnadozie acknowledged the quality of the Zambian side but insisted the Super Falcons have the confidence and experience to deliver a strong response.
“Zambia is a strong side with quality players, but we are Nigeria. We respect them, but we are not afraid of any team. The mood in camp remains positive, and everyone is ready to go out there and execute the game plan,” she added.
Nigeria will face Zambia in Rabat at 9 p.m. on Saturday, with victory seen as vital to reigniting their title defence and keeping their hopes of progressing from Group C firmly alive.
The 2026 WAFCON also serves as Africa’s qualifying tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the competition’s four semi-finalists earning automatic qualification.
