Director General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Philip Shaibu, has congratulated Edo Queens over their victory in the 2026 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League.
Shaibu praised the team for overcoming Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies in a thrilling final, describing the triumph as a proud moment for Nigerian women’s football and Edo State.
Edo Queens secured the title after a 2-2 draw in regulation time before winning 4-1 on penalties to emerge champions.
The NIS director general commended the players and technical crew for their determination, resilience and impressive performance throughout the regional competition.

He said the victory demonstrated the growing strength of Nigerian women’s football and reaffirmed the country’s dominance on the regional stage.
With the triumph, Edo Queens have also secured qualification for the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
Shaibu urged the team to remain focused and continue working hard as they prepare to represent Nigeria at the continental competition.
He further reaffirmed the NIS’s commitment to supporting the development of women’s football and nurturing sporting talent across the country.
