Eze Questions Wike’s Support for Chinda Ahead of 2027
In a statement issued on Monday, Eze described Wike’s reported backing of Chinda as a political miscalculation driven by personal ambition and the desire to preserve political influence.
The ADC chieftain alleged that Wike operates a system of political loyalty in which allies are supported or abandoned according to their usefulness to his interests.
According to Eze, Chinda risks becoming a casualty of what he described as Wike’s politics of convenience.
“Wike has dug Chinda’s political grave, and all that remains is for Chinda to recognise the danger of the political trap into which he has allegedly been drawn,” Eze said.
He warned political aspirants against placing their future entirely in the hands of influential political figures.
“No individual, irrespective of political experience or ambition, should surrender his political future to a political godfather whose overriding concern appears to be the preservation of his own relevance,” he added.
Eze questioned whether Wike’s reported support for Chinda was a genuine effort to advance the lawmaker’s governorship ambition or a strategy to strengthen his own bargaining position ahead of the 2027 election.
ADC Chieftain Recalls Wike’s 2022 Position on Ikwerre Governorship Aspirants
Eze argued that Wike’s reported political position in December 2022 raises questions about the consistency of his current calculations.
He recalled that Wike had reportedly advised Austin Okpara, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, to abandon his governorship ambition because he was of Ikwerre extraction.
Chinda is also of Ikwerre extraction, prompting Eze to question why the same consideration should apply differently to the two aspirants.
“Was Wike wrong in 2022, or has his position changed simply because his personal political interests have changed?” Eze asked.
He added that political principles should not be applied selectively to favour or disadvantage particular aspirants.
“If ethnic rotation and fairness were legitimate considerations when another Ikwerre aspirant was involved, why should those same considerations suddenly become irrelevant when the candidate is perceived to be within Wike’s political orbit?” he said.
Eze maintained that Rivers State’s governorship should not be treated as the exclusive preserve of any individual or ethnic group.
“Rivers State does not belong to Wike, and no ethnic group should be treated as the exclusive owner of its political future. The governorship is not a personal inheritance to be distributed at the pleasure of one man’s whims and caprice,” he declared.

Eze Criticises Wike’s Influence on Rivers State Politics
The ADC chieftain also condemned what he described as Wike’s excessive influence over Rivers State politics.
He accused the FCT minister and the administration of President Bola Tinubu of contributing to the disruption of democratic governance in the state through the declaration of emergency rule in 2025.
Eze said the political crisis surrounding the emergency intervention raised questions about democratic accountability, constitutional governance and the protection of the mandate given to Governor Siminalayi Fubara by voters.
He further alleged that Wike used his influence within the federal political establishment to weaken Fubara’s administration and undermine the political ambitions of those who resisted his authority.
The claims form part of Eze’s criticism of Wike’s reported role in the political developments unfolding in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Rivers 2027 Governorship Race Draws Political Attention
With the 2027 governorship election approaching, political alignments and reported endorsements in Rivers State are attracting increased attention.
Eze’s statement centres on questions of political consistency, ethnic representation, party strategy and the influence of powerful political figures over candidates seeking elective office.
However, the reported support for Chinda and the allegations against Wike remain claims made in Eze’s statement and have not been independently verified. The statement did not include any response from Wike or Chinda.
