The House of Representatives candidate for Eleme, Tai and Oyigbo Federal Constituency in the 2027 election in Rivers State, under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Obarinee Wai-Ogosu, has vowed to pull down the political structure erected by the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, in the constituency.
Key Highlights
- ADC candidate Obarinee Wai-Ogosu vows to dismantle Wike’s political structure in Eleme/Tai/Oyigbo.
- He says it is Eleme’s turn to produce the constituency’s representative under a rotation understanding.
- He accuses incumbent lawmaker Felix Nwaeke of being invisible in the National Assembly.
- He questions why Eleme’s Isaac Kamalu was not picked as the Rainbow Coalition’s governorship candidate.
- He promises bills on power, environment and human capital development.
Speaking with The Trumpet in an exclusive interview in Port Harcourt, the Onne-Eleme-born politician described Wike as a hypocrite who does not practise what he preaches.
He said the minister goes about with the refrain of Rainbow Coalition, but does not in practice reflect the true meaning of a rainbow in his political decisions and choices.
Rotation Arrangement
According to him, there is a gentleman’s understanding among the three local government areas that make up the Eleme/Tai/Oyigbo Federal Constituency to the effect that representation at the National Assembly will rotate among them.
He said while Tai and Oyigbo have taken their turns, it is now the turn of Eleme to produce the candidate for the constituency from 2027, but Wike is bent on truncating the arrangement by insisting that the current lawmaker representing the constituency, Felix Nwaeke from Oyigbo, should continue.
“But we have to break the chain. I am a young man. I am ready to lead from the front. I am ready to bring about the change.
“What the young people have been looking for is who will bell the cat. And I have presented myself to bell the cat and I can tell you for free that I will win,” he enthused.
Obarinee alleged that the incumbent lawmaker has not been visible in the National Assembly and has failed to justify the trust and confidence of the constituents.
“He is aloof, there is a lacuna, there is that loophole and we are taking advantage of that,” he said.
Eleme and the Rainbow Coalition
The politician further stressed that the people of Eleme will have nothing to do with the Rainbow Coalition for not considering persons from the area fit to occupy certain positions.
He recalled that former Commissioner for Finance, Isaac Kamalu, who is from Eleme, came second behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara during the PDP governorship primaries in 2022.
The ADC candidate wondered why Kamalu was not picked to run for governor in 2027 since the coalition has decided to drop Fubara.
“The rainbow as we know has multiple colours, so why are we being made to believe that the rainbow has only Ikwerre colour by having another Ikwerre as governorship candidate in the midst of other ethnic nationalities in Rivers State?” Obarinee asked.

Legislative Agenda
The candidate stressed that his mission to the National Assembly is basically to change the narrative and interpret the true meaning of politics, which according to him is synonymous with development.
He said he will sponsor bills on the floor of the House on the critical areas of need in the three local government areas he will be representing, bordering on power, environment and human capital development.
According to him, he will leverage his experience as chairman of the Onne Market and Park Committee, during which he constructed the massive Onne market, to make the dividends of democracy reach every nook and cranny of his constituency.
He also vowed to maintain the good image of the Wai-Ogosu dynasty in Onne, a legacy his late father, Justice Wai-Ogosu, left while rendering service to his constituency, the state and Nigeria.
