Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have intercepted hard drugs concealed in energy-saving bulbs and recovered a firearm linked to a murder and cultism case.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the first operation was carried out on April 13, 2026, at about 8:45 a.m. along the Onicha-Ugbo/Ewohimi Road.

Police operatives attached to the Safer Highway Patrol, reportedly intercepted a Toyota Sienna bus driven by a 47-year-old suspect, identified as Osuke Stephen.

During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered illicit drugs hidden inside electric energy-saving bulbs.

The police said 490 grams of a substance suspected to be cocaine and four grams of a cannabis strain popularly known as loud were recovered from the suspect.

Preliminary findings, according to the statement, indicate that the drugs were being transported to Abuja, while efforts are ongoing to track and arrest other individuals connected to the shipment.

In a separate operation later the same day, police operatives attached to the CP Special Assignment Team, recovered a pump-action gun with three live cartridges in the Ekigbo area of Ughelli.

The recovery, police said, followed ongoing investigations into a case involving conspiracy, cultism, and the murder of one Alex Adanike, who was reportedly killed on January 15, 2026, in Ughelli.

Authorities disclosed that three suspects had earlier been arrested, charged to court, and remanded in custody in connection with the killing.

Further intelligence identified a suspect, Eddy Onose, who is currently on the run, as being in possession of the recovered firearm before abandoning it upon noticing he was being tracked by security operatives.

The police linked the fleeing suspect to the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as “Aro Bagger.”

Security agencies, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, have intensified efforts to apprehend the suspect and recover additional evidence tied to the case.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-led policing aimed at dismantling criminal networks.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies with credible information to combat crime in the state.
