Ughelli news today from The Trumpet: politics, security, roads, business and community news from Ughelli and the surrounding towns of Ughelli North and Ughelli South, updated every time we publish a new Ughelli story.
Ughelli is the headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area and one of the 24 kingdoms of the Urhobo nation. Its traditional ruler, the Ovie of Ughelli, has his palace at Otovwodo. The town sits on the East–West Road, linking Delta North and Delta South, and is home to the Transcorp Ughelli power station, formerly known as the Delta Power Station, one of Nigeria’s major gas-fired plants. The area’s oil and gas reserves also make it a base for oil industry operations.
