PDP: Edo Must Not Become A Theatre Of Political Violence
“We condemn this barbaric and unacceptable act in the strongest possible terms. No citizen deserves to be attacked, brutalised, or silenced for expressing an opinion or for being perceived to hold a particular political view.
“In a democracy, freedom of expression is a right, not a crime. Edo State, proudly known as the Heartbeat of the Nation, has a rich heritage of culture, civility, and vibrant political engagement.
“We must not allow our dear state to degenerate into a theatre of political violence where thugs and hoodlums are deployed to intimidate, harass, or assault citizens whose opinions or political affiliations differ from those in power.
“Politics should be a contest of ideas, not a battle of fists and weapons. Disagreements are an essential part of democracy, but they must be resolved through dialogue, debate, and lawful engagement—not violence, intimidation, or the shedding of innocent blood,” he said.
He asserted: “We therefore call on the Nigeria Police Force, Edo State Command and all relevant security agencies to undertake a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into this disturbing incident.”
The PDP demanded the immediate identification, arrest and prosecution of all those found culpable, irrespective of their political influence or social standing.
It added that the safety of MC Porkupyne, his family and other citizens who may be vulnerable to politically motivated attacks must also be guaranteed.
“While we acknowledge the Edo State Police Command’s announcement that an investigation has commenced, we emphasise that this must go beyond public assurances.
“The people of Edo State deserve a credible investigation, accountability for those responsible, and justice that is both done and seen to be done,” the PDP said.

Obaseki: Violence Has No Place In A Democracy
In condemning the attack, Obaseki described the incident as a reprehensible act of violence that is unacceptable and must not be allowed to pass without a thorough investigation and appropriate consequences for those responsible.
“Electoral violence is an ill wind that blows no one any good. No political ambition, disagreement or electoral contest is worth the injury, suffering or loss of life of any citizen.
“Violence and intimidation have no place in a democracy, and we must collectively resist every attempt to undermine the safety of our people and the integrity of our democratic process,” the ex-governor said.
He called on all relevant state institutions and law enforcement agencies to act swiftly in investigating the incident, identifying and apprehending the perpetrators, and ensuring that they are brought to justice.
Obaseki said the authorities must demonstrate the resolve and impartiality required to protect citizens and uphold the rule of law, irrespective of the identities, political affiliations or interests of those involved.
