  • Former appointees of ex-Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki have endorsed Monday Okpebholo, citing his development projects and leadership style.
  • The Edo Women Ambassadors for Renewed Hope Agenda (EWARHA) pledged support for Governor Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
  • The group said visible infrastructure projects and improvements in residents’ welfare motivated their support for the governor.
  • EWARHA plans to expand across Edo State’s three senatorial districts and mobilise more professionals and residents to support the APC.
  • Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his commitment to infrastructure development and praised President Tinubu’s economic reforms, especially the removal of fuel subsidy.

The endorsement came during a visit by members of the Edo Women Ambassadors for Renewed Hope Agenda (EWARHA) to Government House, Benin City, where they pledged support for the Okpebholo administration, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

The group comprises professionals from various sectors, including former Special Adviser to Governor Obaseki on Strategy, Policy, Projects and Performance Management, Mrs. Sera Esangbedo Ajose-Adeogun; former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Oise Momoh Omorogbe; and Queen Obaseki, a member of the former governor’s family.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Hon. Mrs. Philomena Ihenyen said the decision to support Governor Okpebholo was informed by what members described as visible developmental projects and a commitment to improving the lives of Edo residents.

According to her, the over 78-member organisation consists of women from diverse professional backgrounds, many of whom are not affiliated with any political party but have been attracted to the APC by the governor’s performance.

“We are pleased to meet with Your Excellency today. EWARHA will soon be inaugurated across the three senatorial districts of Edo State.

“Many of our members are professionals who are not card-carrying members of any political party. However, they have become interested in the APC because of the achievements of Governor Okpebholo,” she said.

Ihenyen noted that the governor’s practical approach to governance and the visible impact of projects across the state motivated the group to identify with his administration.

She added that EWARHA plans to engage communities, professionals and residents across the state while reaching out to individuals from different political backgrounds to support the APC.

Responding, Governor Okpebholo thanked the group for its support and assured members that his administration would remain focused on delivering more development projects and improving living standards across the state.

He said ongoing infrastructure projects, particularly road construction, were aimed at improving connectivity and opening up rural communities for economic activities.

“I am happy that today I can drive freely to places such as Temboga, Sapele, Gelegele, Church Road and other locations across the state. We are working to ensure that roads are motorable, and construction is ongoing in Gelegele and other parts of Edo State,” the governor said.

Okpebholo also commended President Tinubu’s economic reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, which he said had increased resources available to states for development projects.

“The removal of fuel subsidy has brought positive changes to Nigeria. Reforms are often difficult, but they are necessary for growth and development. Gradually, we will get there as a nation,” he said.

The governor assured the group of his commitment to working with stakeholders to advance development and improve the welfare of Edo residents.
